Decolonization has long been an overlooked issue in International Relations, relegated entirely to the past. We hope to help change that—and would love if you would honor us with your presence in pursuit of that goal.

As students entrusted with making an impact, we believe it’s our obligation to engage this institution with voices that remain silenced by traditional Western IR ideology. This year, that also means engaging with the complicit silence of many institutions and scholars in our field. We believe that emphasis needs to be given to facilitating the recognition of and work in addressing issues of latent imperialism and systemic inequality at home.

This year the conference will be conducted completely online, which we hope will make it more accessible for scholars, students, and practitioners of international relations the world over. Additionally, we hope that the conference serves as a starting point in international relations for people in other fields.

DIR 2020 will have nine panels. Keeping in line with our aim of cultivating a conference experience that feels similar to a “shopping day,” conference-goers will be able to choose their own conference experience to some extent. Each panel has been curated such that discussion of systemic racism is inherent to the conversation, particularly given that injustice inheres within these structures.
