"From Palestine to Detroit-Flint" a photographic exhibit at Friends Meeting Cambridge
Exhibit runs from March-April, 2018; Reception on Sunday March 25, 12:15 pm.
Skip Schiel explains: "Parallels exist between the regions of Palestine and two Michigan cities regarding water rights, namely access, testing, purity, pricing, sanitation, distribution, and disposal. Both regions have been dramatically afflicted with water problems, different but similar. I select photographs from both regions, in large part investigating the water situation in Palestine-Israel since 2003 (For example I’ve twice traced the Jordan River system from headwaters on Mt Hermon to the terminus in the Dead Sea.) and returning yearly to Detroit and Flint since 2010, with heavy emphasis on the toxic water in Flint and water cut-offs in Detroit. For both regions I believe institutional powers use water as a weapon of control. A work in progress."
