Dr. Gilbert arrived on emergency assignment with the Norwegian Aid Committee (NORWAC) to support the humanitarian effort at al-Shifa Hospital during the 2008/2009 Israeli war on Gaza, and then again during the war in 2012 and last in the summer of 2014.
As international media were barred from entering the Gaza strip and were reporting from outside the conflict zone, Dr. Gilbert maintained frequent contact with Norwegian media, as well as segments of the world press, including CNN, BBC, ABC and Al Jazeera during every war.
